Only You Can Choose the Perfect Father Daughter Dance

One of the most important planning issues for a bride is picking the song for the father daughter dance. Obviously you expect the dad to become emotional and the bride will need to reapply makeup, the guests will be watching every move and there will be no dry eye in the whole room!

This dance represents when the father truly “gives away” his daughter. To be honest, the father (and mother in many instances) say they present the bride to the groom at the wedding ceremony, but it is not until the father daughter dance that the real meaning of that action really hits the dad. I know as I have had to do this twice! Tears run hot and the heart beats fast, the throat clumps shut and the dad knows in his heart that things will never be quite the same!

This dance will literally rip the heart out of any man worth his salt. He will realize that he is no longer the most important man in his daughter’s heart and from now on, every thing has changed.

So, the simple act of picking the proper song is really a big thing. And you are on your own! Sure you can ask your mom her opinion, but the reality is that only you can pick this song. Your dad will not want to admit his feelings if you suggest songs. He will want to appear strong and probably pick a song that is just so so. He wants to avoid the heavy feeling in his chest and heart by joking and picking a song with no real meaning. He will want to keep smiling like this is just another day in the office… as he knows there will be hundreds of people watching .

He knows that if you pick a gushy song, decades of emotion will flood into his heart and soul when he takes your hand. As he starts to dance and look into your beautiful face in that wedding gown, he will have flashbacks that go to his very core. He will remember when he first held you as an infant. He will think back to your first illness. He will remember your first bike ride and how he was afraid you might fall. He will remember having you walk up the steps on the bus on your first day of school. He will relive the day when you told him how much you love your “special friend” who is now your husband. And his very soul will cry out at the loss of his special little girl and how much he loves you.

So brides, you are now tasked to pick a song that will tug at your dad’s heart and soul. TO choose a song that will remind him of his caring for you as you struggled to grow into the beautiful bride you are today. That will allow him to finally come to grips with the fact that you are a grown women… but that you still are his little girl.

Only you can pick this song. Only you know how to tug at your dad’s heart. Only you have the special feeling that only a daughter and her dad can have for each other.

So, take your time. Look at a long list of songs that symbolize your love and adoration for your daddy. Listen to the lyrics and imagine how special this dance will be. Hold it in your heart and have it announced with little fanfare. GO over to your daddy and hold his hand. Look into his eyes with all the love you have for him. Tell him how much he means to you and how much you love him. Tell him how much you appreciate his acceptance of your new husband and the blessing of the marriage. And let the mascara run and the tears flood your eyes. As this will be a time that will burn its memory into your daddy’s heart for the rest of his live. Years later he will relive the words of the song and the thoughts that came flooding into his soul

Years later he will still remember every detail of how he took you in his arms one last time and the two of you had the whole world to yourselves for a brief few minutes… on the dance floor… as hundreds of people watched that special bond of a father and daughter expressed in the emotion and the smile and the look on your faces as the two of you looked into each others eyes. And they will know that at that time they were watching one of God’s miracles… the love of a father for his daughter!
