If you are wanting to do a signature drink make sure it matches you as a couple. Some are to worried about it matching their wedding colors and the drink may not taste so great! Make sure it taste good and is not loaded with dyes. Also make sure that drink can be made virgin too so everyone can try it. Don’t make the signature drink the only drink available (yes I have seen this done). You can just have beer, wine and your signature drink if you are not doing a full open bar or if you are doing a full open bar,  have a few other fun cocktails. Here are plenty to think about:

Birmingham Graduation Party: Budgeting Tips From a Venue Owner

Posted in: Graduation Party | No Comments »

Graduation parties vary in size and complexity. But most share a lot of costs. As a co-owner of an event venue in NE Birmingham, I can tell you that we have seen a LOT of parties.

Here are the most common items that people need to consider for their budget planning:

Invitations: these can vary from formal custom printed invitations to just an electronic emailed version. Of course the cost also varies with each choice.

Food: Depending upon the type of graduation party, the food can vary from pizza to a full sit down dinner. Here again, there are great variations in cost. Most people can get by with just a starch, vegetable and protein source along with a dessert. Keeping it simple will keep your price low!

Venue: Venues vary from a restaurant to a banquet hall to a hotel. Prices vary all over the board. You can keep your expense low by considering The Magnolia Room at Woodrow Hall. You can rent it for as little as about $400! And it comes complete with tables, Chiavari chairs, centerpieces, special lighting and more!

Decorations: There are entire websites dedicated to graduation decorations. Word of advice: pick a venue that does not need a lot of decorations! Again, The Magnolia Room fits this bill! It has a century of patina and charm but has all of the modern touches including a LCD projector and screen as well as special lighting.

Entertainment: Whether you choose an I-Pod, DJ or band, some form of music is a must. Remember that a graduation is a significant event and dancing is a must!

Rentals: You may need to rent dishes, plates, flatware, glasses or you can use disposables. But plan on what you want and put a line on your budget for this one!

Gifts for the graduate and helpers: Again, these vary greatly in cost.

Given the current economic times, we at Woodrow Hall have attempted to keep this celebration affordable by specifically planning a special banquet room just for these types of events. With seating for 100 and plenty of space, The Magnolia Room is very affordable. If you are having a larger graduation party, we have space for up to 350 on our main ballroom at Woodrow Hall.
